1. Does It Use Exact Solar Term Boundaries?

BaZi months begin at solar terms, and the boundary is a specific hour and minute that shifts each year. A calculator that maps months to fixed dates will misplace everyone born within a day or two of a boundary, and it will misplace late-January and early-February births into the wrong YEAR, which corrupts the whole chart. Ask the calculator, or test it: cast a birth date of February 3rd and see whether it warns you about the year boundary. 2. Does It Correct for True Solar Time?

Your hour pillar depends on where the sun actually was, not what the clock said. Clock time zones are wide, and daylight saving shifts them further, so a birth at 11:20pm on the clock can be a different double-hour in solar time, which changes the hour pillar and can even change the day. 3. Does It Handle an Unknown Birth Time Honestly?

Many people do not know their birth hour. A trustworthy calculator still gives you the three pillars it can compute and is explicit that the hour pillar is missing, instead of silently defaulting to noon and printing a confident chart. 4. Does It Show the Full Chart, Not Just Animals?

A real BaZi chart has eight characters, the hidden stems inside each branch, your Day Master, and your 10-year Da Yun luck cycles. If a "BaZi calculator" only shows you zodiac animals, it is a year-branch toy wearing a BaZi name. Check that all four pillars appear with their stems and branches, that hidden stems are listed, and that the luck cycles come with your actual starting age rather than a generic decade.

5. Does It Explain the Chart in Language You Can Use?

Eight Chinese characters are not a reading. The difference between a calculator and an analysis is whether the tool can tell you what YOUR combination means: your Day Master's temperament, your element balance, what your chart supports and what it lacks.
